Industrial Hygiene

Full Service Industry Hygiene Capabilities

We provide a full range of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and Microbial Services necessary to identify, manage and mitigate potential liabilities. We combine the expertise of environmental professionals and industrial hygienists with proven evaluation, design, and mitigation capabilities.

Our Services Include:

Asbestos Surveys are based on the Asbestos School Hazard Abatement Reauthorization Act (ASHARA).  The purpose of ASHARA is to extend the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) inspection and management requirements to commercial and industrial buildings.  Surveys are conducted to comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements and National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) requirements for pre-demolition inspection activities.

Asbestos Abatement Air Monitoring establishes a baseline of background levels in the work area before abatement begins. During abatement, contiguous air sampling is conducted at the personnel entrance to the regulated area, at the negative air machine discharge, and, if applicable, at the waste load-out.

To provide cost effective air monitoring services, AKT Peerless performs on-site Phase Contract Microscopy (PCM) analysis and post daily monitoring results. Air sampling and analysis follow the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) 7400 Method.

AKT Peerless provides OSHA personnel sampling to determine 8-hour Time-Weighted Average (TWA) and Short-Term Excursion Limit (STEL) exposures. When abatement is complete and a final visual inspection has been conducted, final air clearance sampling is conducted to verify compliance with regulatory clearance requirements and USEPA guidelines.

Asbestos Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Plans and Training – Asbestos that is present in a building must be maintained in good condition. AKT Peerless can prepare a site-specific O&M plan that outlines practices and procedures for maintaining asbestos intact and to prevent potential exposure to workers and building occupants. An integral part of O&M plan implementation is personnel training to comply with regulatory standards. AKT Peerless can provide a customized, site-specific training course to meet the requirements of the O&M plan.

AKT Peerless is also Michigan-approved to provide the Asbestos Building Inspector Refresher training course.

Whether evaluating the permissible exposure limits (PEL) on the floor of an industrial process or investigating the causes of indoor air quality concerns, AKT Peerless has the experience and personnel to help. Our services include personnel air monitoring to evaluate compliance with regulatory exposure standards to chemicals as well as other airborne contaminants.

Building environment assessments include indoor air quality (IAQ) investigations that measure comfort factors including carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), temperature and relative humidity. Measured levels of these IAQ factors can be immediate indicators of a potential problem. AKT Peerless can also design and perform specialized testing for airborne contaminants based on conditions and situation-specific needs.

Radon Gas is a leading cause of lung cancer. AKT Peerless’ Certified Radon Measurement specialists can perform both short and long-term test regimens to evaluate radon levels in single family and multi-family structures. Acceptance testing can be performed post new construction or after the installation of a radon mitigation system in an existing structure.

Microbial contamination can create unwanted human exposure and damage to property values. Our services can help identify and remediate microbial contamination.  Investigations include mold identification, speciation, and cause evaluations as well as development of remediation designs to remove impacted materials. AKT Peerless can perform moisture content testing, water damage delineation and quantification. We can conduct mold damage evaluations, compile recommendations for abatement and prepare cost estimates for remediation.  AKT Peerless can also perform post-remediation clearance testing.

AKT Peerless can develop abatement specifications and design packages to facilitate competitive bidding for removal of asbestos, mold and/or universal waste materials. Specification and design packages can include contractor vetting and bid administration services.
