Environmental Assessment and Statutory Review of multiple properties utilizing Federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) standards in Ohio

THE PROJECT

AKT Peerless was contracted by the City of Akron to perform HUD Environmental Assessments and Statutory Reviews for the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority. The scope of work involved 35 single-family home sites scattered throughout Akron, which were scheduled for renovation and disposition.

OUR ROLE

AKT Peerless reviewed the work descriptions for each property, then completed the Statutory Reviews and Environmental Assessments in accordance with 24 CFR Parts 50 and 58 to determine if the properties qualified for a Categorical Exclusion. The scope of work involved completing the 36 impact categories for each property, which included gathering data ranging from zoning and distance from city services to soil types and potential flooding. A review of the historic significance of each property and neighborhood was also confirmed with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO).

The review indicated that the projects were categorically excluded as defined in 24 CFR Part 58.5. AKT Peerless also determined that, based on the data gathered, the properties were exempt from regulations as defined in 24 CFR Part 58.34(a)(12).

THE RESULTS

AKT Peerless then completed the required environmental checklist and included the supporting data in a report to AMHA and City of Akron. AKT Peerless concluded the projects were determined to be exempt from the applicable federal regulations, allowing HUD funding for the City of Akron to move forward.
